A.J.'s (local) Chess Notes

This is a page where I will document anything of interest to the local chess community.

  •    October 26th, 2004:  O.R. "Russ" Chambers, a long-time member of the Pensacola Chess Club passed away. I attended both the visitation, the wake, and the funeral. Russ was a great guy and perhaps the most faithful of all the PCC members. (He was often the first to arrive and the last to leave. [ more, scroll down near the bottom of the page ]

  •    (early) January, 2005:  A long-time friend and member of the local community was lost. Dr. Clyde K. Dunagan passed away. Dr. Dunagan was working as a teacher at a fine Mobile school teaching mathematics. He had cancer.

Kelly was a good chess player, his highest rating was close to (or over) 2000. He made the decision early on to pursue an education rather than chess, he eventually earned his doctorate in mathematics.

On a personal note, Kelly and I were friends since the 1970's. I knew his Dad,  (Levon Dunagan, I attended his funeral as well.); and we went to many tournaments together.  I know that a memorial was planned in Mobile ... I do not know if it was ever held or not. (More details would be appreciated.)
