"Box vs. box," and "Program versus Program" TestsOn
this page I will be recording the results of chess testing. Basically, I have
always wanted to test the strongest chess programs against the other programs
... that represent some of the best known and highest-rated programs on the
market. I also would like to test a strong program, say Fritz or Chess-Master
9000, against a strong, commercially available D.M.P. I am NOT interested in testing all models, or obviously weak versions or hand-held devices. Just the very "best-of-the-best," so to speak. I also am not interested in doing any "Human-vs.-Machine" tests, as I already have a nice website that is completely dedicated to just that subject. ChessMaster 9000 versus Fritz 8.0********************* Yes, I know that "ChessMaster, 10th Edition" has already been released. (I plan to purchase it as soon as the funds become available.) And it is possible that Fritz 8.0 may soon be superseded by a stronger or updated version of this program. However, I wanted to test these two programs against each other in a series of matches, played at tournament levels. I wanted to try and do this as scientifically as possible, and record the results. One of the reasons for this test is one student will tell me that they played the two programs together, and got one result. Then someone else will say that they paired the two programs together and got another result. Many of my informal tests clearly ended with CM9000 coming out on top, but these were not done in a scientific manner, and also a handful of games does NOT represent a good base for a true and proper comparison, statistically speaking. I plan to do run these tests, one game at a time, on a weekly basis - alternating colors.
