This
will be my page for the archives for my ... "Game
Of The Month" Feature ... ... ...
beginning in January, 2006.
Games for 2006
-
- Game
# 28.
(January, 2006.)
-----> It seems everyone is doing it!!!
What are they doing? It seems nearly all titled players are
playing an early ...b7-b5;
in the Slav System. (1.d4 d5; 2.c4 c6; 3.Nc3 Nf6;
4.e3 a6; 5.Nf3 b5!?) I have had
literally dozens of requests to annotate a game in this line.
So after many e-mails, I
decided to yield to public pressure. I found one GM contest
that I thought would
make a suitable addition to my "Game of The Month"
collection. You asked for it,
so you got it! Its a nicely annotated game, I spent quite a bit
of time on it. Not only
this, I did dozens of database searches, in order to insure
that no key encounter
was overlooked. I also made sure to check all available
resources! {ref. books}
-
- Game
# 29.
(February, 2006.) This is a MUST-SEE game! For
everyone!!!
This will go down as one of the best games of the new century,
and may even be
in the list of the "Top 25 games ever played." A
Queen's Indian that was DEEPLY
annotated, I did literally dozens of database searches. Every
modern reference
book was consulted. The printed version of this game, (in the
CB format, with a
diagram after every other move, and also many analysis
diagrams); runs close
to fifty pages!!!!! You simply must check this game out.
(See it now.)
-
- Game
# 30
(March, 2006) This is a contest that
virtually decided first place
in one of the biggest tournaments of the year. It is a fairly
thoroughly detailed look
at a line that is very much in vogue in GM chess. There are 15+
diagrams to help
you follow the progress of the game. This is an interesting
chess fight, and is
certainly worth your time. (Have
a look.)
-
- Game
# 31
(April, 2006) This is a struggle
from a match that was played
rather recently. One of the best - squares off against the
continental champion.
The result is an extremely fierce fight and a highly instructive Q+P
endgame.
Certainly this is a game that could benefit the average player, so
see it now!
-
- Game
# 32
(May,
2006.) This is a clash between two
of the world's better
players ... and the player with the Black
pieces comes out on top. This is a super-
brilliancy, Black played a game to stun even the
most jaded aficionado. This effort
is also designed to be a current survey of the
"Marshall Gambit," (declined) system
of the Ruy Lopez, [C88]; so you really should check
this one out!
-
- Game
# 33
(June, 2006) This is a relatively
recent GM contest ... both of the
players are out for blood. A former (FIDE) World Champion is on
the Black side of
this one ... and is badly outplayed. This is also a
"Scotch Game," of of my favorite
openings. (Although I never used it in tournament chess, I
badly wanted to play it.
However, the chess experts of the time period convinced me that
it was not a good
opening system, but I remained interested in it.) It is
annotated, and there are many
good links. I am sure that the student of the game will find it
valuable and instructive.
-
- Game
# 34
(July, 2006) This was a nice contest
... played at the "AeroSvit"
GM tournament in June of this year. The # 2 player from India
... and one of my
favorite players go head-to-head ... and the sparks really
fly!! Not only is this a VERY
fascinating chess game, it may also have a major impact on
opening theory! It is
a very carefully annotated game ... there are more than 10
diagrams, a link to a replay
page ... and dozens of valuable references. If you play either
side of the Slav opening,
[D17]; then you really
should check this game out! (There is fire on this
page!)
-
- Game
# 35 (August,
2006) Here is a game between a bona-fide
prodigy ...
and a former prodigy. A 2600-rated GM defeats a 2700+ player
... in a rather uneven
- but very exciting - struggle. The tactics are enormous and
entertaining, the end of the
game is a real chess problem. ("White to move and
win.") This is a carefully annotated
clash, the opening is a King's Indian. [E97] There are also
many links to other games
with the same opening, so if you are trying to study, this
should prove useful.
-
- Game
# 36
(September, 2006)
Two "Super GM's" (both are rated 2700+),
square off in this game from the Spanish Team Championship.
(Many of the world's
best players compete in this event ... all playing for various
teams.) A sharp - and a
theoretically important game in the Semi-Slav ... ... ... are
the result, in the end, Black
succumbs to White's sustained assault. Good analysis, and lots
of interesting and
informative links, so do not miss this game!
-
- Game #
37
(October,
2006) You haven't seen Topalov get defeated in
too many
games the last few years, but here he was solidly beaten. Who
managed to defeat the
the former World Champ ... and who was the masked man who
pulled off this feat?
This is a carefully annotated game ... and one that took a long
time to complete.
Note: There will be no game for November or December of 2006 ...
due to various problems.
(During the period of September through December. 2006 - my computer broke
repeatedly.
Additionally, my wife was very ill, during the month of September, 2006 ...
she was taken
to the ER many times, and was hospitalized once for about a
week-and-a-half.)
If
you have seen an interesting game, that has been played recently, please bring
it to my attention. Remember, I have to be able to verify this game in TWIC
or ChessBase BEFORE
I will even consider trying to annotate it!! (Page
created November 23rd, 2004.)
