This
will be my page for the archives for my ... "Game Of The
Month" Feature ... ... ...
beginning in January, 2005.
Games for 2005
-
- Game
# 16. (January,
2005.) An intense game of fighting chess by
one of the
world's top grand-masters. Good,
tactical, creative, and highly competitive chess!
-
- Game
# 17. (February,
2005.) Two of the world's best GM's go
toe-to-toe, in
one of one of the most
theoretically significant games - for the whole year. Black
wins!
Very interesting tactics!! A
truly incredible game ... that is deeply annotated - with
diagrams! (And a link to a
popular site that has the game in a replayable format.)
-
- Game
# 18. (March,
2005.) One of the years' biggest open tournaments
ended
in a five way tie. This was one
of the games that helped decide first place! And this
month, you get a special treat.
Annotated games in the download. And its all free!
-
- Game
# 19, (April,
2005.): A game from the last tournament that Garry
Kasparov
was to play in. It is a brilliant game, annotated
in a style befitting such a great game.
It is a fighting Sicilian, it starts off as a
Najdorf, but transposes to a Scheveningen
System. The tactics here are phenomenal, and well
worth studying over, and over
and over again!!!
-
-
Game
# 20, (May,
2005): Here is a game in the fianchetto
system of the KID.
(The KID = The King's Indian Defense.) It is a
great game, with neither player willing
to take a draw. The tension is maintained
right up to the last moment. The winner is
decided only by a mistake in time pressure,
but this does not detract from the beauty
of the game, at least - not for me. All the
fans of the KID will want to check this game
out. It is keyed to MCO, and there are a
couple of valuable research links as well.

-
Game
# 21, (June,
2005): Here is a super-fighting game of
chess, it almost
appears that both players had an agreement
NOT to make a draw. The combatants
stand in there throwing punches ... until one
of them is finally knocked out. This game
also was a very important factor in
determining who won the tournament. And not only
this, it was a VERY complicated and
relatively rare sideline of the "Botvinnik Gambit."
So - just so I could better understand it - I
subjected it to some intense analysis.
-
-
Game
# 22.
(July, 2005.) An
extremely good and interesting tactical game.
Further ... it is by one of the players that
many considered to be the natural
heir to the World Championship Crown ... at
least at one time. (Check it out!)
-
-
Game
# 23.
(August, 2005.)
A tough game that allows the winner's team to
slip by his opponent's team. Furthermore, the
winner's team ... eventually came
out on top in the 2005 European Team
Championships. A nicely done game.
-
-
Game
# 24. (September,
2005.) A fantastic game by a legend of
chess ...
who proves that he still has what it takes. A
truly incredible contest, with a DEEPLY
{annotated}
opening survey on the "Queen's Indian Defense." (Probably three
weeks of work!) (A
nicely done game, so please ... check it out.)
-
- Game #
25.
(October, 2005) A very well annotated game
between a 2700+
GM and another GM rated almost 2650. It took over
two weeks of analytical work,
and several days of formatting to bring this web
page to life. Additionally, there are
many links that I am sure you will find valuable -
and the download contains several
nicely annotated games - it is maybe one of the
best jobs that I have ever done.
-
- Game
# 26. (November,
2006.) A game that is very carefully
annotated. It also
helped determine the flow of a tournament that
decided a new World Champion. And
I discovered many things (analytically) about this
contest that others had missed or had
perhaps glossed over. And the download contains
several nicely annotated games. All
in all, it adds up to something worth taking a look
at. Check it
out ... and let me know!
-
- Game
# 27. (December,
2005.) Another game that is carefully
annotated ...
in a very controversial opening variation.
(The Benoni.) A game that is sure to please
both the amateur and the more experienced
player ... even a master should find this
game stimulating. (All the major lines are
incorporated into this game.) Check it out!
If
you have seen an interesting game, that has been played recently, please bring
it to my attention. Remember, I have to be able to verify this game in TWIC
or ChessBase BEFORE
I will even consider trying to annotate it!! (Page
created November 23rd, 2004.)
